ARkit for iPhone – Open Source Library for Augmented Reality

by Thomas K. Carpenter in augmented reality3 Comments

As AR moves to the smartphone, more people are getting involved with its development.  This group is working on developing an open source AR library for the iPhone.

Though the details are few, the title of the video and the sparce information on the google project website gives us an idea:

A UI library for displaying location based data in spherical coordinate systems using UI Kit on the iPhone.

Notes:

– Does not use OpenGL
– The locations are hard-coded by the app layer for demo reasons.

Going forward, we plan to mirror the Map Kit api. All views

The video is a little blurry, but they do have a twitter feed if you want to keep updated.  Hopefully, they’ll be coming out with more details soon, because it sounds promising.
