The Digital Sea
I finished my post-cyberpunk novel this last month have begun sending out queries to agents for representation. I expect to release this book in 2010. This is the book blurb section of my query letter :
Zel Aurora, a skilled reality-hacker and reluctant thief, must find a way to obtain the illegal treatments her daughter needs to live. It’s 2052. Overpopulation and the rapid decay of the environment has led to the banning of health care, but no one cares because they’re lost in the Digital Sea, connected by embedded computers and seen through optical implants. The world, shrouded in fantasy, can be anything one wants it to be.
When Zel makes a high-stakes deal with a powerful crime lord to track the source of an imminent war between Pakistan and India, she puts everyone’s lives at risk. Along the trail she must overcome an assassin who can walk through crowded streets unseen, battle Luddites bent on the Digital Sea’s destruction in the drowned city of New Orleans, and find an island that doesn’t exist.
She discovers that someone is controlling reality within the Digital Sea using powerful quantum computers, and what she thought was her own hard-won freedom may be as much an illusion as all the rest. In the end, with truth scattered like a thousand broken mirrors, Zel must make a decision to save the world that will cost her daughter’s life.
I’ve also written a few short stories based in the Digital Sea. As they find a home, I’ll update their status.
