ARtisan is a front end and management system for FLARToolkit and Papervision3D. The goal of ARtisan is to facilitate developers in creating rich, browser based augmented reality environments, without having to know the inner workings of marker detection.

Currently they have five examples up on their site including the source code and a way to interact with the example on their site.

The goal of the site is commendable because it will allow latecomers to the AR scene a chance to catch up quickly with their examples and coding for FLARToolkit and Papervision3D.

Last week I showed a brief demonstration of the Metaio Unifeye Design Demo1.0. The goal of the demonstration was to show how non-programmers could get started on the software.

The crew at Metaio sent me more information on the software, giving me more options of what I could do. Today’s video shows these new (not really new, I just didn’t know how to use them correctly) options within the software: how to attach 3D objects to markers, workflow and recording actions.

The section on workflow is a bit difficult to see because of the white-out effect in the video, but if you open up that section of the software, I think its easy to figure out what I meant during the demonstration.

After playing with the software this weekend, I came away more impressed by the options. In a short amount of time I was able to feel like I knew what I was doing. And this is only the demo. We haven’t heard yet what will be included in the full version. And as I said in the video, they’ll be releasing more information about the software, including how-to-use videos, sometime soon. I’m looking forward to them.

I would suggest if you’re an AR enthusiast or even a serious AR programmer, to try out Metaio’s software. I’d love to see some people with real programming chops show us what this software can really do. If you come up with something creative, send me an email or a comment here and I’ll be happy to showcase your creation on this blog.
