An Audiophile’s Dream

I worked as a DJ in college at KMNR 89.7 and it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had.  Music has always been a part of my life, and without it, going on a run, driving a car, or sitting down to write wouldn’t be as enjoyable.  In fact, music helps me set the mood when I sit down to write.  Below are some of the bands I enjoy listening to, and I hope you’ll give them a listen:

Tool

Porcupine Tree

Pink Floyd

Broken Bells

Coheed & Cambria

Concrete Blonde

Death Cab For Cutie

My friend, you have outstanding taste in music! I would recommend that you check out Joy Division, The Black Keys, and Rage Against the Machine. Very impressive list, and I, too, use music as a way to get my mind in the writing mood. Muse and Pink Floyd are particularly good for that, as well as Styx, whom you also don’t have listed here.

Styx was definitely an early favorite of mine. Just doesn’t fit my tastes anymore though. Rage and Joy Division is cool. The Black Keys is a new one on me. I’ll have to try it out.

My latest fix when I’m writing has been The Mars Volta. I have only listened to them when writing my current novel. I’m 75,000 words in and I think I’ve listened to the three albums at least thirty times. But it gets me right into the mood of the book, so I don’t mind.

And I need to update the list. The new album by MGMT is spectacular. Been turned onto Broken Bells, Opeth, and Mastadon lately too, though Year of the Black Unicorn from Coheed has been my most listened too. Honestly, I wish I had a budget of $100 a month for music. I love it so.

    Thanks for stopping by Alex!
